A Dream is a wish … etc.

Pardon me, my four-year-old has been watching Cinderella over and over. Yes, the classic and iconic princess has claimed Nora’s #1 Princess spot, over the likes of Elsa, Sofia, etc. Rapunzel and Elsa are probably rounding out the top three, with Sofia making a strong push for third too.

This past weekend was the Disney World Princess Half Marathon weekend, full of such fun as the Glass Slipper Challenge (10K + Half Marathon), kids’ races, a fun 5K, and princesses everywhere. I would have loved to run this but … did I mention baby due in June? And not a good pregnant runner? Thought I might have.

Also this weekend came an announcement of a Disney race close to my heart: the inaugural Disneyland Paris half marathon in September 2016. The husband is French, see, and 2016 is our 10th anniversary year. I’d already talked about wanting to do the Tinkerbell Half (Disneyland in California) as my “We’re done having babies!” race in May 2016, and the Wine and Dine Half Marathon (Disney World in Florida) since it’s near our anniversary in November 2016. (And earn that coast-to-coast, because why not? It’s a big year.)  So if we added in a Disneyland Paris in September for an unofficial “around the Disney world” challenge … ah, it’d be so fun. And expensive. Let’s not forget expensive.

So dreams and wishes and et cetera … in honor of all the Disney racing fun, I thought I’d share some fun running costume boards I’ve put together. I started doing these for the Disney 10K in 2014, and it’s become a fun little hobby of mine. I’ve done some of the “main” princesses, but love to do characters less known or emulated.

First: a princess who always does her best. Sofia‘s sister Princess Amber.

Not feeling the princess vibe? How about Izzy from Jake and the Neverland Pirates?

Oh, okay … in honor of the French run and my own teenage Disney obsession, here’s country Belle.

What are your running dreams for 2016? If the Disney plan doesn’t work out for me, I may have to look into the Texas Wine series

Friday Five: What’s (Still) in My Gym Bag?

Oh, whoops … I totally missed a week there, didn’t?! I had a baby update all in my head to share and kept thinking that I just needed to take a picture. That never did happen, partly because Kid #3 was up all of Saturday night/Sunday morning with a stomach virus. Then I took one at work – in the bathroom, of course, because that’s the only full-length mirror I have access to. I hated that picture because it was IN A BATHROOM. Ugh. Then it’s Friday and I’m passing another week tomorrow, and well … why I don’t just combine and 16/17 week update on Monday, okay?

(Everything baby is peachy, btw.)

This week’s Friday Five theme is “What’s in your gym bag?”

I haven’t been to the gym for running, yoga, cross-training, or anything other than customer meetings since I got pregnant. See, I work in HR and we’re assigned to organizations to support and have regular meetings to hear what’s going on and what help they might want. My gym is at my workplace, one of my customer organizations runs the gym, so … ta da!

Since I hadn’t been in so long, I thought it’d be fun to see what’s STILL in my gym bag after four months of not using it.

Running Shoes

First up: the running shoes, of course. Adidas Supernova Boost, I think. Purple, for sure. You can see my ID tag from the local running store and the pod-holder for my Nike+ Sportswatch. I like these shoes a lot, but my favorites are still my Mizuno Wave Riders.

Spare Change

Ah yes: the collection of spare “change.” Spare shorts, socks, and underwear. Spare Bondi Band to keep bangs and hair off my face (running pet peeve). Spare Velcro roller and flat iron for the post-run-and-shower beautifying.

Nuun and Honey Stinger Chews

Nuun! I love you, Nuun. You’ve helped me even during pregnancy when it’s so hard to choke down regular water without vomiting. The Strawberry Lemonade is probably my favorite, although Grape + Tropical is pretty good, too … especially after a nasty Houston summer run when I need the double help. And some chews for fuel … love me some chews.

Plastic bags

The always important plastic bags! I keep the runDisney bag from last year’s WDW Marathon Weekend 10K in my gym bag. It’s great for putting either my work clothes (post-work run) or my sweaty running clothes (pre-work run) in until I get home and can throw them in the laundry. You never know when you’ll need a plastic bag.

And finally: my secret weapon. Wonderful for both runner mama’s occasional monkey butt and chafing (don’t lie, it happens to all of us) AND for the baby’s diaper rash. Best stuff ever. Except maybe coconut oil (for the same issues), but the Dr. Smith’s diaper rash ointment is more portable.

Now I’m all nostalgic … the prenatal yoga has been wonderful, but I can’t wait to go run again! On my drive home from work the other day I was getting all emotional looking at the sidewalks in our neighborhood and remembering how they look in sunrise runs. That, my friends, is what pregnancy hormones do to you!

Enjoy the Friday Five Link-up that’s hosted by Mar, Cynthia, and Courtney! It’s a great way to find more running blogs!

My First WDW Marathon Weekend: Expo!

I came, I picked up, I shopped (sorry Will), and I got soaked.

Blurry picture of the huge vendor hall … it was great! I had a lot of fun browsing through the various booths and options. I may have had too much fun … I have a Raw Threads Minnie Mouse shirt to commemorate my first 10K, Yurbuds that I’ve been eyeing for a while, a visor from One More Mile that asks people to drag me across the finish line if they find me on the ground … oh, and some more sparkly hair ties from Bondi Bands. And a sparkle skirt. Oh well … at least I have my outfit for the Galveston Half next month!

20140110-025649.jpgThere was the requisite Minnie Mouse picture to get ready for the 10K the next day … Since Jude loves the Hot Dog dance so much (from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse), I had to try Minnie’s moves for my picture.
20140110-025710.jpgThen the heavens opened and the rain fell down. Seriously, it just started pouring like anything while we were in the Expo! The parking lot turned into a mud pit, leading us to joke that this was Disney’s first mud run. So I decided that we’d call it the Merida Challenge in honor of Disney’s own warrior/obstacle course/mud run. Ha.

The Expo was tons of fun, and I didn’t even hit every possible booth! Believe it or not, I restrained myself. Too many things, too little money. Or too much budget restraint, take your pick!
